TUPPER LAKE-Gerald V. Pickering,77, of Newcomb, passed away, Monday, November 30, 2009 after a short illness at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. He was born July 15, 1932 in Tupper Lake, the son of Victor and Lena (Gilligan) Pickering. Mr. Pickering was a veteran of the Korean war serving 1952-1954. He was also a 3rd degree Knight being a member of St. Isaac Jogues Council in Ticonderoga. He retired from the Town of Newcomb after 18 years of service in the Highway Dept. He and his wife Nancy were married on August 19, 1956. They enjoyed traveling after their retirement in 1994. They had the good fortune of having been able to visit all 50 states. The 50th state of Hawaii was completed on the occasion of their 50th Anniversary. Mr. Pickering is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy, a daughter Lynne Mackey of Clifton Park, a son Bruce and his wife Arlene of Troy. He is also survived by 2 granddaughters, Erica Mackey and Erin Mackey, both of Clifton Park. Also surviving are 4 sisters; Lorraine LaCourse, Shirley Jenks, Geraldine LaFountain and Donna L. Garrow, one brother, Roger Pickering and two brothers-in-law Roy LaFountain and Elroy Garrow and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by one sister Pauline Bashant. Calling hours for Mr. Pickering will be held on Thursday, December 3 from 4 to 8 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Church in Newcomb. Burial will follow in St Theresa's cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a time of fellowship following the service at the Newcomb Fire Hall.
