Reginald Perras

Reginald Wayne Perras, age 81, of 26 Wolf Pond Way, Ray Brook, died at home under the expert care of High Peaks Hospice on Saturday, October 4, 2014.

Born in Peru, New York on May 03, 1933, he was the son of Joseph and Gladys (Sample) Perras. Reginald married Joan Ryan at St. John’s Church in Plattsburgh on April 7, 1958. She predeceased him October 10, 1999. Reggie married Marcia Doty on December 14, 2002.

From childhood Reg, would help his father in the family business, Rosebud Creamery. Upon graduation from St. Johns Catholic School, he attended Canton ATC where he was drafted by the Army for the Korean War. In 1955, Reg went back to work for the family business in Plattsburgh after the war. In 1965, Reg moved his family to Saranac Lake after the family business purchased The Dairy Dell which was renamed later to Rosebud Creamery. In 1977, Rosebud built a new building on River Street which he operated until Rosebud sold in 1995. Soon after, Reg joined Asplin Tree Farm as the Farm Manager for several years. He then became the Office Manager with the Adirondack Apartments before finally retiring in 2004.

Reg was very active in the community and volunteered for many civic organizations including; SL Pee Wee Hockey Association as a member and past president, SL Village Trustee, member of the Democratic Party, Winter Carnival Committee, Ice Palace Worker, Winter Carnival King of 1987, Knights of Columbus as a member and Past Grand Knight, Plattsburgh Chamber of Commerce Jaycee Honorary Member, SL Civic Center board member and past president and a member of St. Bernard’s choir.

He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren, boating, canoeing and fishing. He was never one to sit around, always having some sort of project in the works. Volunteering in the community was very important to him.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Doty of Ray Brook, two sons, Mick Perras and his wife Pam of Portsmouth, RI, and T.J. Perras and his wife Ann of Lawrenceville, GA, one daughter Beth Sullivan and her husband Tom of Saranac Lake, his grandchildren Alicia Perras of Littleton, Colorado, Alexandra & Rachel Perras of Portsmouth, RI, Hannah, Emily and Josh Perras of Lawrenceville, GA, and Bridgit and Bryan Sullivan of Saranac Lake, four sisters Eileen Perras, Suzanne Perras, Shirley Abraham (Joseph) all of Plattsburgh, NY and Lita Bechard (Dennis) of West Chazy, NY and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife Marcia’s children: Derek, David and Doug Doty, Doris Doty, Denise Whelan and their families. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Frederick (Ted) Perras.

Friends may call at the Fortune-Keough Funeral home in Saranac Lake from 4-7 pm Tuesday. A bible vigil service will be held Tuesday at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am at St. Bernard’s Church. Interment will be Thursday at 11:00 am in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Friends wishing to remember Mr. Perras may make contributions to St. Bernard’s School or High Peaks Hospice in lieu of flowers.
