Denise (Hachey) Peets, 58, of Tupper Lake, died peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2009, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake where she has been surrounded by family during her recent illness. A life-long resident of Tupper Lake, she attended local schools. She retired from Sunmount DDSO in 2008.
Denise was the heart and soul of a very large and exuberant extended family. The Peets home was the rallying point of many fun-filled family gatherings with great food. Coming from a family of hearty eaters she became one of the family’s favorite cooks solidifying our versions of delicious standard dishes and creating new recipes. What a loss if you haven’t sampled her “pink stuff”. Among her special interests were collecting cookbooks, reading, decorating, an interest in gardens though not an active gardener, “penny” gambling, card playing, and travel.
She and her husband, Roger, were constant companions and liked to travel and to explore alternate routes, taking little-known roads to see where they meandered.
She was predeceased by her mother, Beulah (Trepanier) Hachey and father, Zenon Hachey; and her brothers, Raymond Hachey and Robert Hachey. Denise’s beloved survivors include her husband, Roger Peets, of Tupper Lake; daughter, Maureen (James) Foti of Tupper Lake; son, Kevin Hachey of Milwaukee, WI, David (Allyson) Peets of St. Regis Falls,NY and Todd Peets of Fulton, NY; sisters, Sharon Hachey of Syracuse, NY and Linda (Rodney) Bashant of Tupper Lake; brothers, Michael (Deborah) Hachey, of Rochester, NY, David (Donna) Hachey of Tupper Lake, and Donald (Laurie) Hachey of Tupper Lake; grandchildren, Stephanie Hachey, Jessica Foti, Alexandra Peets, Christine Peets, Todd Peets, Jr., Brandi Peets, Kayla Peets; godson, Donnie Hachey; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may celebrate her life at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake on Tuesday, September 22nd, between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. A Memorial service will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 23rd at 11:00 AM with Fr. Kris Lauzon officiating. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Her life was exemplified by kindness, compassion and a strength of character. Words cannot express how much she was loved nor how much she will be missed. Online condolences may be made at www.stuartfortunekeoughfuneralhome.com
