Norma Abbott Peckham, age 91, of Vermontville, New York, beloved wife of the late John W. Peckham Sr, died peacefully on November 7th, 2020. Norma was born in Saranac Lake, New York on August 14th, 1929 to the late Howard and Blanche Abbott.
Norma was employed by Bic Corporation in Milford, CT until her retirement. After her retirement, Norma and her late husband John returned to Vermontville, where they owned and operated the Peckham’s Country Store.
Norma enjoyed spending time with family. She was an avid Yankee fan except for when they played the Mets. She also enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Norma collected many bells over the years. Her family will miss her fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, date-nut cookies, and her thanksgiving biscuits. She loved and cared for many pets over the years.
Survivors include her children: Howard Peckham (“Gigi”) of Saranac Lake, NY, Carol (Bob) Lavigne of Vermontville, NY, Brenda Peckham (Bob Bialo) of Milford, CT, Jennifer Mitchell (Bill) of Milford, CT, John Peckham, Jr. (Maryellen Begor) of Vermontville, NY, 13 grandchildren; Heather Tuttle, Shannon Peckham, Howard Peckham jr. (Kelly), Deanna Peckham, Brent Peckham(Lauren), Hollie Whitacre (Rob), Bobbie Lavigne, Dannielle Cammarano, Rachel Mitchell, Rebeka Seaberg (Michael), Susan Mitchell, Francine Mitchell, Jessica Peckham, 21 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Norma was predeceased by her siblings: Veona Sweeney, Alma Symonds, Velma Symonds, Winnie VanderBogart and Carlton Abbott.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. Friends and family may call on Saturday, November 14th from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the funeral home with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00pm at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at Union Cemetery in Vermontville, NY with the Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. Family and friends attending in person calling hours and funeral services are asked to please follow all COVID-19 recommendations including social distancing and wearing a mask. Due to extenuating circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic the Peckham family understands that it may make it difficult to attend.
