Raymond H. Patnode, age 79, formerly of Kiwassa Road Saranac Lake, and more recently of the Neighborhood House in Keene Valley, died Friday, May 25, 2012 at AMC-Uihlein where he had been a resident since March.
Born in Onchiota, New York on May 30, 1932, he was the son of Oliver and Dora (Lamora) Patnode. He married Dorothy Murphy on September 23, 1962 in Black Brook, NY. She predeceased him on September 1, 1999.
Mr. Patnode is a life long resident of Saranac Lake area and at the time of his retirement had been employed at the Executive Director for the Harrietstown Housing Authority. Prior to that he had worked for Resort Cable for 10 years and was instrumental in expanding cable service to Tupper Lake, NY. He had also worked at Western Auto in Saranac Lake, Santa’s Workshop in Wilmington and had owned and operated a motel in Wilmington for a short time. Prior to that Raymond was partners with his twin brother Roland in Patnode Brother’s T.V.. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1952 to 1954. Following his honorable discharge from active duty he served 6 years in the Army Reserve. Raymond is a past member of the Saranac Lake Lions Club and a member and a past officer of the Saranac Lake Elks Club BPOE 1508
He is survived by three sons Edward Patnode of Saginaw, MI, Scott Patnode of Saranac Lake, NY and Matthew Patnode of Fargo, ND, his companion of over 10 years Dolores Commo of Saranac Lake, NY, two brothers Francis Patnode and his wife Violet of Glens Falls, NY and Roland Patnode and his wife Jackie of Saranac Lake, NY, two sisters Geneva Hammer and her husband Edward of Valparaiso, IN, and Mildred Patnode of Onchiota, NY. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Briana and Alexandria Patnode of Saranac Lake, Joel Patnode of Murfreesboro, TN, Alyssa Patnode of San Diageo, CA, Cameron Patnode of Lake Placid and Sobhan Patnode of Chazy, NY, 3 step grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one son Mark Patnode, and three brothers Walton, Robert and Harold Patnode.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 2PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM. An Elks Service will take place at 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 PM on Thursday May 31, 2012 at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Interment will take place in St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Black Brook at the convenience of the family.
