Robert “Bobby” Ohmann, 90, of Saranac Lake passed away on November 15, 2022 of natural causes.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years in 2012.
Robert is survived by his 3 children, Bruce, Sheila (husband Kenneth) and Kyle (wife Lori) as well as 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Robert was born on May 20, 1932 in Saranac Lake to Anna and Fredrick Ohmann. He had 3 sisters, Virginia, Eileen and Valeita and one brother, Richard. As a youngster, he was very mischievous and ended up having many accidents and getting into countless fights.
He married Mary Aubin on September 27, 1952 and worked most of his adult life at the Village of Saranac Lake in various positions including supervisor and purchasing agent. He also served in the National Guard for 35 years in the 10th Mountain Division. On most weekends you would find him on the water fishing or in the woods hunting deer. He also enjoyed spending time with Mary’s brothers and sisters. Robert and Mary were always involved in their children’s and grandchildren’s lives and were very proud of all of them. They even drove to Florida and North Carolina a couple times a year to spend time with them.
Robert suffered a massive heart attack (like his father) at age 55 but survived 35 years thanks to all of his talented doctors and other medical staff.
He was also an avid self-taught carpenter. He completely remodeled their home and was constantly building furniture and other items. His granddaughters were especially proud of the doll cradles that he built for them.
