CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Anita (Diego) Oddy, 94, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016, in her home.
Mrs. Oddy was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Northfield, Vermont, to the late Marcelina Fernandez Diego and Dionesio Diego. She had two sisters: the late Alvera Fortune and late Aurora Gillespie; and one brother, the late John Diego.
She was a 1943 graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital in Nashua, New Hampshire, with a degree in registered nursing. She worked 40 years at Saranac Lake General and Lake Placid hospitals in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, respectively.
She was married to the late Robert W. Oddy Sr. for 54 years and lived in Saranac Lake, Paul Smiths and Barefoot Bay, Florida.
She is survived by two sons: Robert W. Oddy Jr. and wife Betty of New Braunfels, Texas, John D. Oddy Sr. and wife Janie of Bonham, Texas; and one daughter, Ann O. Christensen and husband Carlton of Chesapeake, Virginia; grandchildren Holly B., Danielle, J.D., Michael, Holly C., Derek and Dane; and 10 great-grandchildren: Alexandria, Abigail, Olivia, Christophe, Jada, Isaiah, Ava, Jack, Loralie and Lillian.
Anita was a very active, athletic person, who loved a good joke. She missed her friends at the LifeStyle Center at Chesapeake General Hospital the last six months of her life.
The family would like to thank her caregivers: Joyce, Dawn and Cynthia from Home Instead Senior Services for their friendship and care.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday September 17, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Mt. View Cemetery in Gabriels, NY with the Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the LifeStyle Center at Chesapeake General Hospital in her name.
