Lucile Obst of Saranac Lake, and previously Wilmington, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016, at Saranac Village Will Rogers, where she lived for the past 13 years.
She was born in Brooklyn on Aug. 13, 1916, to Hans and Louise (Karrass) Obst.
Lucile is survived by her daughter Roberta Bedford and her son Roy Barreca and was predeceased by her son Richard Barreca. She has two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Lucile studied nursing at St. John's Hospital, Brooklyn, and fashion design and homemaking at Pratt Institute. She used her skills well to raise her family and to take care of her parents later on.
She enjoyed travel and was always ready to explore. She traveled extensively throughout the USA and Europe, and made three trips to India.
Since moving to Wilmington in 1980, she loved to explore the Adirondacks.
The family is thankful for her enriching experience living at Will Rogers and for the special care provided by her groups of caregivers for the last seven years.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family.
Friends wishing to remember Lucile can make memorial contributions to High Peaks Hospice in Saranac Lake in care of the funeral home.
