Norma C. Niederbuhl, 89, of Bloomingdale, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the AMC Saranac Lake.
Born on November 5, 1925, Norma, a life-long resident of Bloomingdale, was the daughter of the late John and Mildred (Norman) Curran.
Norma earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1946 from the College of Mount St. Vincent in New York City. She was subsequently offered a position at General Electric in Schenectady, NY, but returned to the Adirondacks and married Arthur F. Niederbuhl on July 5, 1948 in Bloomingdale.
In addition to being a full time mother of six she served as Office Manager of Norman’s Store, founded by her grandfather, M.B. Norman and carried on by her parents, husband Arthur and currently her son Art Niederbuhl. She was a substitute teacher at St. Pius X High School and taught Math at Saranac Lake High School.
Norma enjoyed many leisure activities including playing bridge, sewing, and creating bead jewellery. In later years, she became quite a skilled games-player on the computer.
She is survived by her husband Arthur F. Niederbuhl, her six children: John Niederbuhl and wife Carol of Bloomingdale, NY; Claire Skidmore and husband James of Chalfont, PA; Arthur S. Niederbuhl and wife Thelma of Bloomingdale, NY; Casey Miller and husband Kris of Markham, ON; David Niederbuhl and Robin Greene Sperling of Amherst, NY; Margaret Lynch and husband Joseph of North Andover, MA; twenty grandchildren, more than twenty great-grand children and daughter-in-law, Gretchen Reid. Norma is preceded in death by her parents, stillborn son Matthew (1955), and sister Eleanor C. Madden.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. Private graveside service will take place at the family’s convenience in the spring at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Bloomingdale.
