Doris L. Myers, age 87, of Cold Brook Road, Vermontville, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at her home.
Born in Chester, New York on May 06, 1925, she was the daughter of Clifford and Bernice (Tannery) Laroe. She married Lucien Myers on October 23, 1948 in Chester, NY.
Doris moved to Vermontville in 1983 with her husband “Lou” after closing the family plumbing business in Warwick, NY. She was a devoted mother and housewife enjoying many hobbies including cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, jig puzzles and playing solitaire. Doris was well known for her green thumb spending hours tending to both her indoor and outdoor gardens. An active outdoors woman Doris assisted in the management of the family property that had included fish farming, most recently from her motorized wheelchair. In her “spare” time she entertained the wildlife such as hand feeding her favorite local bird the gray jay. Known to many as “grammie” she will always be loved and greatly missed by her family.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to all of the fifth floor nurses at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh for their professional, compassionate & attentive care toward Doris during her stay prior to her death.
She is survived by her husband Lucien of Vermontville, four daughters Pamela Berry and her husband Stephen of Francistown, NH, Patricia Myers of Rocky Mt. NC, Peggy Neill and her husband Charlie of Vermontville, and Joanne Diermeier and her husband Fritz of Warwick, NY, 9 grandchildren : Brenden, Krista, Justin, Kyle, Shannon, Carrie, Eric, Hal, and Brett, and one great grandchild Fern. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one son Lou and one brother James “Bus” Laroe.
