Stephen P. Morgan, age 76 of Saranac Lake died Tuesday January 9, 2018 at his home.
Stephen was born December 6, 1941 to Sylvia (Neubauer) and Leonard Morgan in Saranac Lake, NY.
Steve graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1960 with many athletic awards. He went to the University of Northern Colorado where he played football and worked many part-time jobs. After graduation, Steve taught at Banner County High School in Harrisburg, Nebraska and the following year he accepted a teaching/coaching position at Lake Place Central School, where he taught and coached for 34 plus years.
Following his retirement from LPCS he taught Drivers Education for another 7 years at Saranac Lake Central School and summers at Lake Placid Central High School.
Steve coached JV and Varsity football, basketball and girls softball and was inducted into the SLCS Hall of Fame in 1989.
Steve is survived by his wife Marsha MacDowell Morgan of 48 years and three children; Erin Morgan Kilroy, Ryan Morgan, Whitney Morgan and treasured family friend Sonja Vollertsen. Also four grandchildren; Morgan and Megan Kilroy and Ryley and Jenna Morgan, his sister Patricia (Gregory) Reichhart, sister-in-law Debra (James Titus) MacDowell, brother-in-law Terry (Theresa) MacDowell, “Aunt Jean” McDonough and many nieces and nephews.
Steve’s greatest joy in life was his family and his athletic teams. He loved spending time at his camp (which he built on MacDowell Bay) with his family, and deeply valued his close friends.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, step-father Richard Tierney, brother Michael and brother-in-law Brad MacDowell.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Calling hours will be on Saturday January 13th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a service immediately following with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will take place in Old St. Bernard's Cemetery in the spring.
