Elizabeth Ann Morgan, 46, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 16 at her home in Saranac Lake surrounded by family and loved ones, following a three-year battle with breast cancer. Throughout her illness Liz inspired everyone around her with her courageous fight, zest for life, and love of family -- especially her husband Dermott and their children Haleigh Ann and Dermott Patrick Jr., all of Saranac Lake.
"To Liz, there were three important things in life," said Dermott. "Being a wonderful mother, a loving wife, and a great sister. She achieved all of that and more."
In addition to her husband and children, other survivors include her mother, Ann Brewster of Saranac Lake; her father and stepmother, Robert and Maureen Brewster of Rouses Point; and her father-in-law Dew Drop Morgan, of Saranac Lake.
Liz is also survived by her four brothers and their families: Jim and Gwen Brewster of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota and their children Kate, Matt, and Theresa; Robert Brewster of Baltimore; Tom Brewster of Plattsburgh and his son Chris of New York City, and Chris' mother Sharon Brewster of Plattsburgh; and Mike Brewster of New York City, along with his wife Amey Stone and their children Lucy, Francie, and Charlie. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive Liz. She was pre-deceased by her maternal grandparents, James and Lucille McNulty, and her paternal grandparents, Francis and Thurlah Brewster. Many members of the Saranac Lake community and Saranac Lake Central School District community joined to help Liz in her battle, particularly her sister- in-law, Kelly Morgan, and her brother-in-law, Spider Dupree.
While Liz loved the mountains and beauty of her adopted hometown, she was born in Plattsburgh, New York, on January 9, 1965. She spent her childhood in Rouses Point and graduated from Northeastern Clinton Central School in Champlain, New York. Liz earned her Associates degree from North Country Community College, received her LPN certification, and attended courses in hotel and restaurant management at Plattsburgh State. At the time of her death Liz worked, when she able, as an LPN at the Adirondack Medical Center-Uihlein in Lake Placid.
It was in the restaurant business that Liz truly found her calling. From 2005 to 2009, Liz successfully co-owned and managed Morgan's 11, a popular restaurant in Saranac Lake. Of the many hats she wore at the restaurant, Liz particularly loved interacting with customers. She also enjoyed camping, spending spring break vacations in Virginia Beach, and attending local events -- such as the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival -- with her children.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 21 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home at 20 Church Street, in Saranac Lake. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 22 at St. Bernard's Church, Saranac Lake.
