Harold J. ”Bud” Morford, Sr., age 95, of Bloomingdale, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born in Bloomingdale, New York on September 30, 1922, he was the son of John and Lena (Collins) Morford. Harold married Margaret Barkley on June 18, 1953 in St. Mary's Cathedral in Ogdensburg, NY
Bud graduated from Wannakena Ranger School in 1948 and worked seasonally from 1948-1953 for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the US Department of Agriculture. He later was employed as a corrections officer for NYSDOC at Dannemora Correctional Facility, retiring in 1979 after 22 years of service. After his retirement he worked for the Town of St. Armand maintaining Brookside Cemetery and the lawns at Overlook apartments. Bud was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II from 1942 to 1946.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, two daughters Katherine McCloskey of Albany and Diana Swain of Saranac Lake and one son Harold Morford, Jr. of Amenia, two sisters Anita Ely of Watertown and Theresa Taylor of Bloomingdale, four grandsons and two granddaughters, eleven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A mass of Christian Burial will take place in the spring at St. Paul’s Church in Bloomingdale. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Bloomingdale.
