Thomas Moody

Rev. Thomas Alexander Moody, 69, died at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY, July 19, 2010.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Alphonsus Church, Tupper Lake, NY. Most Reverend Terry LaValley, Bishop of Ogdensburg will preside at the liturgy with the priests of the Diocese concelebrating. Funeral Arrangements are with Stuart –Fortune Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. Calling hours are Wednesday July 21, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home and continuing at St. Alphonsus Church on Thursday morning from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Alphonsus.

Fr. Moody was born in Tupper Lake on April 4, 1941, son of the late Leonard C and Florence Ward Moody. He attended Hold Ghost Academy in Tupper Lake and began his studies for the priesthood at Wadhams Hall Seminary in Ogdensburg, NY and at Christ the King Seminary in St. Bonaventure, NY. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 20, 1967 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg, NY, by Bishop Thomas A. Donnellan.

Fr. Moody’s first assignment as assistant pastor was at St. Mary’s in Canton, NY. Later he was assigned to St. Mary’s in Massena, and St. Joseph’s, West Chazy. He was made pastor in 1979 at St. James, Gouverneur, St. Martin’s in Port Leyden, St. John in the Wilderness, Lake Clear, St. Francis of Assisi Newman parish, Potsdam, St. John the Baptist, Madrid, and St. Lawrence, Louisville, St. Augustine, North Bangor, St. Mary’s, Brushton and Special Parochial Vicar for the Watertown Catholic Parishes.

Fr. Moody retired in 2006 and, most recently resided at Samaritan Keep Nursing Home.

Fr. Moody was known for his youth ministry, particularly at Camp Guggenheim in Saranac Lake where he served many summers as chaplain and later, loved playing DJ at the youth dances at the camp. He touched many lives with his compassionate heart.

Fr. Mood y is survived by a brother, Leonard “Cliff” Moody, Syracuse, NY and two sisters, Nancy Arnold, Tupper Lake, NY and Marion Moody, Madonna House Apostolate, Combermere, Ont. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews
