Dorothy M. Moody, age 91, formerly of 15 Riverside Dr., Saranac Lake where she lived for many years, and formerly of 8 Crossfield Ave., Saranac Lake where she lived for ten years and formerly of Will Rogers where she lived for three years, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at River Ledge Home in Ogdensburg, where she lived since April 4, 2013.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on October 16, 1922, she was the daughter of Charles and Edith (St Louis) Brown. Dorothy was married to Paul Rochester who died in 1986 after over 40 years of marriage and her husband Henry Moody, whom she married October 1, 1988, died in 2005.
A resident of Saranac Lake for most of her life, Mrs. Moody was employed as a nurses aide at Gabriels Sanitarium and later Uihlein Mercy Center. She had been employed at the New York Telephone Co. in Rochester and worked for Rochester Products Division in the 1940's. Mrs. Moody was a member of the Secular Order of St. Francis, St. Joseph Fraternity since the 1960's. She was also a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters Court St. Bernard and the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved her Church and her family. Dorothy was a well known local artist who exhibited her paintings at the Paint and Palette and recently at Will Rogers. She also enjoyed gardening, cross word puzzles, reading and hiking and was a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Bank.
She is survived by two daughters: Patricia Fox of Belleville, Ontario, Canada and Margery LaBombard of Batavia, NY, two grand children: Marcie Yarbray of Colflax, North Carolina, and Schoen LaBombard of Albany, NY, two sisters: Muriel Sweet of Batavia, NY, and Eleanor Gauthier of Saranac Lake, five great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband Paul Rochester and her husband Henry Moody, her father Charles Brown, and her mother Edith St Louis.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake from 5-7PM on Friday, August 22, 2014. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 PM Friday with the Catholic Daughters and the Altar and Rosary Society in attendance. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place, with a Catholic Daughters Honor Guard, on Saturday at 10AM at St. Bernard’s Church with Father Patrick Ratigan and Father Patrick O'Reilly concelebrating. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
