Emma Montalbine, 89, died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at her home in Saranac Lake.
Born in Webster Springs, West Virginia on February 2, 1922, she was the daughter of Norman and Mary (Dodrill) Holcomb. She married Vincent P. Montalbine on January 10, 1948 in Brooklyn, New York. After their marriage they settled in Saranac Lake where they had met while being treated for tuberculosis at the Trudeau Institute. He predeceased her in June, 1998.
Emma attended the Nursing Program at New York University Bellevue Medical Center in New York City and graduated as a Registered Nurse in June, 1947. During her career she worked at Raybrook Hospital, Will Rogers Hospital, Medical Associates of Saranac Lake and Adirondack Medical Center until her retirement in 1997.
Emma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Saranac Lake.
She is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters: Dr. Paul Montalbine; Christopher Montalbine and his wife Michelle of Clayton, North Carolina; Ann Montalbine, Saranac Lake, NY; and Barbara Montalbine, Saranac Lake, NY; four grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, her parents, and eight brothers.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral home in Saranac Lake, Thursday, March 17th from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. A private family burial will take place later in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Emma Montalbine may make memorial contributions to the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad, or to High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.
