Richard (Rich) H. Miller, 82, of Lake Clear New York, passed away on November 8, 2015 at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.
Born January 2, 1933 in Syracuse NY was the son of Theodore and Beatrice Miller of Wolcott NY.
Rich is survived by his wife of 60 years Margaret (Meg) O’Grady Miller, a sister Georgie Garrison, Wolcott NY; children Rick Reed (Shelley), of DeKalb Junction, NY, Ron Reed (Donna) of Cortland, NY, Lynne Littlefield (Danny) of Sodus, NY, Valerie Miner (David) of North Bennington VT, Dan Miller (Barbara) of Williamsport PA, and Thomas Miller of Haiku, HI; and, 13 grandchildren (Jamie (Littlefield) Hargarther, Tim Reed, Jeremy Littlefield, Eric Reed, Zeb Miner, Adam Reed, Miriah (Miner) Downing, Lauren Reed, Myles Miller, Drew Miller, Haley Miller, Valaree Miller, and Zeke Miller and, 7 great grandchildren (Daniel Littlefield, Kendall Littlefield, Kinlee (Littlefield) Hargarther and Eli Miner, Brodie Miner and Jack Miner.
Rich and Meg moved to Lake Clear in 1990 after residing in Sodus NY for 38 years. Rich had a love for the Adirondacks, paddling, hiking, and camping. Rich enlisted in the Army in January of 1952. A Korean war Veteran, he earned a number of commendations including two Bronze Stars. After his service in the Army he enrolled and graduated from Wanakena Ranger School. After graduation he worked for Davy Tree, Buffalo NY and then Rochester Gas and Electric (Sodus, NY) where he worked for 38 years until his retirement in 1990.
Rich was committed to serving his community, He served for many years as the Scout Master (Eagle Scout 1950) for Troop 111, Sodus NY, a member of the Sodus Central School Board; many years serving as president of the Board, and a member of the Sodus Lions Club.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake on Wednesday November 11, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Paul Kelly officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Saranac Lake, NY. A reception will follow the burial at Charlie’s Inn, 44 Junction Road, Lake Clear, NY.
