Casey Mchugh

July 3, 1990 — June 24, 2010

Casey Sean McHugh, 19, beloved son of Sean P. and Katheryn A. (Sheldon) McHugh, died Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Fletcher Allen Health care Center in Burlington,Vt.

Born July 3, 1990 in Saranac Lake, Casey attended Saranac Lake High School, graduating in June of 2008. A solid student, Casey also excelled at sports, playing Varsity soccer, hockey and golf for Saranac Lake. He had just finished his sophomore year at SUNY Potsdam where he made the Dean’s List, concentrating in environmental studies, playing college golf for the Bears, and continuing his love for hockey by playing on a men’s league team.

Casey is survived by his parents and three brothers, Brennen, Ryan and Patrick McHugh; and his loving girlfriend, Ally Korony of Saranac Lake. He leaves behind his grandfathers, James J. McHugh of Wilkes Barre, PA and Jupiter, FL and Robert J. Sheldon, Sr. of Canton, NY and Upper Saranac Lake. He was predeceased by his grandmothers, Elizabeth Sloane McHugh of Wilkes Barre, PA and Jean Leroy Sheldon of Canton, NY. He will be missed by his many aunts and uncles, and cousins, who loved Casey very much.

Casey loved all kinds of recreation and activities, including wake boarding snowboarding, skateboarding, water skiing, bicycling, drawing, collecting movies and reading. As a fifth grader, Casey set a world record which still stands, for water skiing behind a war canoe as he was pulled around Lower St. Regis Lake for 22 minutes and 10 seconds. Casey had developed a passion for mountain climbing and enjoyed many hikes throughout the High Peaks with his friends. If there was a game to play, puck to shoot, movie to watch, mountain to climb, or just a chance to hang with friends, Casey was there. Kind, fun, gentle, loyal and thoughtful, Casey had many friends that he truly cherished.

In his memory and honor, Casey’s family encourages you to play a round of golf, take a hike or walk in the woods, spend some time with friends around a campfire, check out the stars, and remember to cherish and make the most of your time here on earth. Those wishing to may make contributions to a charity of their own choice, in Casey's memory.

Calling hours will take place on Sunday June 27, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Monday June 28th at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer Officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Lake Clear.
