Shirley Mcgill

May 2, 1927 — December 15, 2016

Shirley D. McGill loving wife of Howard A. McGill of Lake Clear died Thursday December 15, 2016 peacefully at her home after a long illness.

She was born May 2, 1927 in Saranac Lake the daughter of William F. and Catherine (LeBeau) Duquette.

After graduating from Saranac Lake High School she worked for the NYS Dept. of Health. Later when her children were grown and in school she returned to work as a medical secretary at the Saranac Lake General Hospital (Adirondack Medical Center) in Saranac Lake and retired after 20 years. She enjoyed watching her hummingbirds, sitting on her front porch looking over the Lake Clear and visiting with her grandchildren and showing people pictures of them.

On May 20, 1950 she married Howard A. McGill who survives her. They were married for 66 years. They had six children Andrew (Laurie) of Saranac Inn, Hugh of Lake Clear, Peter of Lake Clear, Maureen (Rick) Burngasser of Lake Clear, Bernadette (Ted) Ratelle of Lake Clear and William (Lisa) of Saranac Lake. She was the proud grandmother of Shannon, Patrick, Corey, Kaleen, Jamie, Erica and Logan. She had 7 greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, William Jr. and John Duquette and 2 sisters Rita Hadjo and Eleanor Vitullo.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Monday December 19, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday December 20, 2016 at St. John’s church in Lake Clear. Burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery in Lake Clear.
