Lynda Marie McGiboney-Herr, 70, of Tupper Lake, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend died March 26, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake due to ongoing health issues with her heart and kidneys.
Lynda was born August 5 1941 in Niagara Falls, NY. She was the daughter of Wilfred James and Beatrice (Caron) Lemieux.
She graduated from LaSalle Senior High School at the age of 18 in 1959 and then went on to college for nursing at Carnegie College in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated in the summer of 1962 with a degree as a medical and x-ray technician. She then got pregnant with her first child who was born in December of 1962 back in Niagara Falls, NY. A few years later, she met her first husband, Leonard McGiboney, and they wed in 1963. They then conceived her second child who was born in February of 1964. One year later, she had her third child in October of 1965. She also had a step daughter with him that she raised and claimed as her own.
She later moved to Tupper Lake, NY in 1978 after the divorce of her first husband where she resided the rest of her life. Lynda ran a store with her brother and parents called Little Wolf Trading Post. She worked at Sunmount DDSO as a developmental aid where she retired from. She later bought her permanent home on Park Street in 1982. Her family bought the 330 lodge in 1987 where she also help manage the restaurant until it burnt down in 1997.
Her second husband, Thomas G. Herr, was a lifelong friend who moved up to Tupper Lake in 1994 after the death of his first wife. They lived together until they married in March of 1999.
Lynda is survived by her four daughters, Cheryl McGiboney, Sandra Willette and her husband Kevin, Kathy Kennedy, and Laura Brown, one brother, Terry Lemieux, four grandchildren; Craig Lalonde, Amanda Cremeans, Colleen and Russell Brown, and two great grandchildren, Rilee and Joel Cremeans. She also had two nieces, several cousins and many friends.
She was predeceased by both husbands and both parents. She enjoyed family, friends, Elvis Presley, gambling, being outside, playing bingo, arts and crafts, kids, flowers, being at camp, sports, laughing, smiling, parties or any family gatherings of any kind. She also donated time to the local cheerleaders.
Calling hours are scheduled for Sunday April 1 from 2-5 p.m. at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. A Mass of christian burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Church Monday April 2 at 11 am. There will be a burial service for her and predeceased husband, Tom Herr at St. Alphonsus cemetery. Following this will be a reception at the VFW Post 3120 at 1 pm.
