Margaret A. Martin, age 95, of 236 McComb Street, Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at AMC Uihlein Mercy Living Center where she had been a resident since 2013.
Born in Paul Smiths, New York on January 05, 1921, she was the daughter of Emil and Sadie (Blanchard) Block. Margaret married Joseph Martin on December 2, 1946 in Saranac Lake, New York by The Rev. Peter Ward.
Margaret was a lifelong resident of the area and had worked as a waitress/cook for many years. She also worked as a chambermaid at Paul Smiths College and was the housekeeper for the first President of Paul Smiths College. Margaret and her husband were partners and managers of the family business Martin's Moving, Trash Removal and Excavation Co. in Saranac Lake. Her hobbies included camping with her family, cooking, baking, reading, and sewing. She also enjoyed hiking, canoeing and playing pinochle.
She is survived by three sons Joseph (Dawn) Martin of Plattsburgh, Charles and Richard Martin both of Saranac Lake, one sister Martha Martin of Albany, NY, and one brother William Block of Rensesslear, four grandchildren, Angela Huffman of Lake Placid, Holly Martin of Plattsburgh, Steven Martin of Saranac Lake and Nathan Stanley, five great grandchildren Brooklyn, Sabrina, Dylan, Danielle and Jonathan, and one niece Rosemary LaBombard and several nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, two brothers Joseph and Emil Block, and one sister Anna LaBombard .
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family in St. John’s Cemetery in Paul Smith.
