Iva Marie (Bruso) Martin, age 77, formerly of Saranac Lake, died Sunday, October 23, 2016, at her home in Elmwood Park, NJ surrounded by her family including her beloved "granddogs".
Born in Saranac Lake, NY on August 8, 1939 to Nellie (LeClair) and Bernard Bruso, Sr. She was the eldest of four children. She graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1957. She was a member of Junior Catholic Daughters, the American Legion Auxiliary and many other local organizations. She worked for the NY Telephone Company during high school and while attending Plattsburgh State Teachers College. After leaving college she worked for AMA in Saranac Lake for many years before moving to New Jersey with The Wyatt Company in 1981. She retired from Watson Wyatt Data Services in 2009.
Iva was a dedicated mother, grandmother, wife and friend. She is survived by her daughter April Martin of Elmwood Park, NJ; her son Donald Martin and his partner Dorothy Yell of Saranac Lake, NY; she had one grandson Cameron Luedecke of Elmwood Park. She is also survived by her sister Carol Ellis of Zephyrhills, FL; brother Albert (Debbie) Bruso of Bloomingdale, NY; brother Bernard (Sheila) Bruso of Auburn, NH. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald ("Ducky") Martin. She also leaves behind several sisters-law, nieces and nephews.
Iva was a very special lady and the most positive person you could meet. No matter what she was faced with she smiled and said it will be ok. Even after suffering several strokes that left her bedridden, for the past several years, she always had a smile on her face and good word for everyone she saw. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday November 4, 2016 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will follow at Harrietstown Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
