TUPPER LAKE- Thomas Abdo Maroun,74 of Tupper Lake passed away Monday October 19, 2009 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born in Tupper Lake on April 30 1935. He was the son of Abdo and Ester (Joseph) Maroun.
Tom married Lena Boardman on September 22nd 1962 in Holy Name Church. They had five children together, Thomas A Maroun Jr.and wife Penny, Joanne Maroun, MaryEllen Chamberlain and husband Brian, David A Maroun, Amy J Shaheen and husband Mike. He also has 8 grandchildren Matthew Maroun, Adam Arnold, Katelyn McKinley, Allison Chamberlain, Jackie Skelling. Jaiden Shaheen, Evan and Lindsey Maroun and one great-grandchild Ilahn Maroun. He was also survived by two sisters, Juliet Maroun and Mary Ann Fletcher and husband Edgar. Several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers Joseph and Ellis Maroun.
Tom attended Canton ATI Barber School in 1959 and barber school in Syracuse, NY. He was a member of US Army Reserves. A longtime member of the Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Dept.,he served as Chief from 1976-1977 and was a past president of NY Volunteer fire assoc. Tom was also a Life member of Knights of Columbus council no. 2177 and a Member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.
He was a self employed barber at Tom's Barber Shop for 50 years. He loved cutting hair and visiting with all his faithful customers. He will be sadly missed on Main Street.
Loved spending time with his friends at McDonalds and Stewarts especially talking politics with Red Clement. Also loved spending time with his family.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus church.
