Margaret Ann "Peggy" Carpenter

 Margaret Ann “Peggy” Carpenter, age 97, of the Alice Center, Malone, NY and formerly

of Rainbow Lake, NY passed away at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, NY on

Tuesday April 9, 2024.

 

Margaret was born on September 11, 1926, in Hamburg, NJ the daughter of Martin and

Mary (Tillison) Van Strander. She married her lifelong love Wilbur Austin “Carp”

Carpenter, Jr on August 25, 1946, in the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsburgh, NY.

 

Margaret grew up in Hamburg, NJ and graduated in March of 1946 as a member of the

U.S. Nurse Corps in the first nursing class in Plattsburgh State Teachers College. She

was a nurse at various hospitals throughout NYS. Upon retirement, Margaret and her

family settled in Rainbow Lake, NY.

 

Margaret is survived by her daughter: Mary (David) Henry of Terra Ceia FL, her son:

Wilbur (Mary Anne) Carpenter III of Perkasie, PA, her daughter-in-law: Paula (Stephen)

Carpenter of Idaho Falls, ID, her son-in-law John (Leslie) Kolodziey of Rainbow Lake,

NY, as well as nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-

grandchildren.

 

Margaret was predeceased by her husband Wilbur, sons Derick, Stephen, and Craig,

daughters Leslie and Amy Jo.

 

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church

Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. At Margaret’s request there will be no calling hours;

burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life will be

announced at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers, family and friends may choose to remember Margaret Ann “Peggy”

Carpenter with a memorial contribution to the Amy Carpenter Memorial Scholarship

Fund, in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Steet, Saranac Lake,
