Agnes Majilton

September 29, 1923 — January 5, 2010

Agnes H. Majilton, age 86, formerly of Lake Placid, NY and more recently of the Keene Valley Neighborhood House, died Tuesday, January 05, 2010 at Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

Born in Syracuse, New York on September 29, 1923, she was the daughter of Joseph and Marguerite (Hubbard) Hurley. She met Edward Majilton while she was attending Cornell University Nursing School. They were married on July 31st, 1943 in Middletown, NY. He predeceased her on June 17, 1997.

Mrs. Majilton had been a resident of Lake Placid since 2005 and had lived with her daughter and son-in-law for several years. She moved to Lake Placid from Arkansas where she lived in retirement for 30 years.. Prior to that she had lived in Miami, Florida for 32 years where she had assisted her husband in their Veterinary Clinic. Mrs. Majilton was an avid reader and a Revolutionary War buff. She especially loved to travel to historic sites. She was a member of the Ladies Adirondack Mountain Bible Study (LAMBS) and attended the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid. She enjoyed quilting, jigsaw puzzles and card games.

She is survived by two sons, Bruce Majilton and his wife Kari of Miami, FL; Mark Majilton and his wife Janet of Memphis, TN and one daughter Claire Thayer and her husband Phil of Lake Placid, NY; 8 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren; one brother Bill Hurley of Seal Beach, CA; three sisters Lisa Lewis of Essex Junction, VT, Ellen Baer of Atascadero, CA, and Julia Goelz of Portland, OR and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother Dan Hurley.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of her life will take place at 10 am on Saturday, January 16 at the Erdman Hall of the Adirondack Community Church. Internment will take place at the convenience of the family in Arkansas.
