Jeanne A. Magher passed away peacefully with her family by her side, August 29, 2010 at Adirondack Medical Center. She had been a resident of AMC Mercy since 2005. Born Jeanne Aurore Parent on February 10,1920 to Eugene and Emerilda (Thibeault) Parent in Berlin, NH, she was second of eight children and was educated in area schools. The family eventually settled in Lewiston, ME where, as a young woman, Jeanne was employed in local textile mills. She was married to Thomas S. Magher on June 5, 1948 and they settled in Tupper Lake where Tom was already employed in the lumber industry and they raised four children. When her children were grown, Jeanne was employed by Sunmount DDSO and later participated as a Foster Grandparent at LP Quinn Elementary School for more than fifteen years, an endeavor she truly enjoyed. In 1992 Tom and Jeanne were honored as Woodsman and Woodswoman of the Year by the Lumberjack Field Day Committee. Over the years she became an accomplished knitter and loved to cook and care for her family. Although of petite stature she was in possession of a strong spirit and was known to her family as "La Jeanne," a force to be reckoned with. She was the heart of the family and well-loved.
She is survived by her four children, Thomas S. Magher, Jr., Port Orchard, WA, Maureen LoPresti, Tupper Lake, Gary (Rhea) Magher, Tupper Lake, Sharon (Andrew) Allen, Fairport, NY and Tupper Lake; her sister Therese Leroux, Tupper Lake; and nephew Gary Kucipak, Tupper Lake; her grandchildren, Nathan and Joshua Magher, Danielle and Nicholas Magher, Christie and Shannon Allen and various nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Magher in 1995, her parents, brothers Henry and Paul Parent, sisters Margaret Roy, Doris Roy, Rita Caron and Marie Parent and her son-in-law Frank LoPresti.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 2 from 7p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Stuart Fortune Keough Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church followed by burial at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
