Christina Loren

October 18, 1957 — September 20, 2023

Christina R. Loren, 65, of Plattsburgh, died Wednesday, September 20, 2023, after a courageous 7- year battle with cancer. She passed away at her home surrounded by loving family.

Born in Bakersfield, California on October 18, 1957, she was the daughter of Jack and Margaret (Stewart) Stevens. She grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was inspired by her third-grade teacher, Mrs. Ross, to become a teacher herself, a dream she would later proudly fulfill. During high school and afterwards, she held many jobs, in hotel, other hospitality, and liked to say she had worked in the mines in Montana! (She drove the small locomotive that pulled the loading carts in and out of the mines.) While living in California she was a hand and foot model, blessed as she was with physical beauty.

After getting married, she moved with her husband to Plattsburgh where he had grown up. Christina began work in real estate and property management and soon became a mother of four. Later, despite the hardships of raising children but wanting to set an example to them, Christina started at Clinton Community College and finished at Plattsburgh State University with a degree in Education and master’s degree in special education. She specialized in teaching Special Needs students at Northern Adirondack School District in Ellensburg, NY. She retired in 2018.

Christina loved adventure and travel. Whether road trips around the country, camping with family, or trips to Europe, Central America and the Caribbean Islands, she loved seeing and learning new things. She had many hobbies from collecting rare coins to quilting to art to finding hidden treasures at estate and garage sales, and gardening. She was a Master Gardener. She especially enjoyed sharing time at her Ladybug Lane Camp at High Falls Park with her family and friends.

Christina loved family and planning, organizing and hosting large family reunions and other events. She took on the care of Betty Doyle for 7 years and gave Betty wonderful quality of life to the end. The Doyle Family is forever grateful for the compassion shown to their mother and to them.

Christina is survived by her partner Patrick Doyle, her daughters Monica and Michelle Ratliff, son Jordan Rattliff, all of Plattsburgh and Caleb Ratliff of Warrensburg. She is also survived by her grandchildren, her sister Teresa Aldaco, and brothers Tim, Johnny, and Steven, all of Vancouver, Washington. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Stevens, and mother, Margaret Stevens.

A Celebration of Christina’s life for friends and family will be held on Sunday, October 1, from 11:30am to 2pm at her home, 87 Ashley Rd, Plattsburgh, NY.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Family and friends can share their condolences and memories at fortunekeoughfuenralhome.com.
