Norma Longo

Word has been received of the death of Norma J. Longo, age 83, of Onchiota, died Friday, December 21, 2012 at Halifax Health Hospice.

Born in New York City, New York on August 16, 1929, she was the daughter of Mack and Flora (Ransom) Swinyer. Norma married Carmelo Longo on March 9, 1972.

Norma graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1945 and SUNY at Albany in 1949. Norma taught school at the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School in Selkirk, NY from 1956 to 1986. She moved to Onchiota in 1990 and was a volunteer at the Adirondack Medical Center. She enjoyed knitting, crochet and quilting, and her flower gardens.

She is survived by her husband Carmelo Longo of Onchiota, one son Thomas Norris, Jr. of Cassopolis, MI, four step children Terri Biel of Voorheesville, Christopher Longo of Front Royal, VA, Mark Longo of Albany, NY, Roberta Princiotto of Voorheesville, 9 Grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one brother Sheridan Swinyer of Bloomingdale and a sister Faye Humus of Conway, SC. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and her daughter Lynn Luke.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Saturday April 20th at Church of the Assumption. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Vermontville.
