TUPPER LAKE- Ms. Taire Anne LaVigne, 60, of 111 Wawbeek Ave, Tupper Lake, passed away, Monday, December 5, 2011 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born March 24, 1951, she was the daughter of Walter and Shirley LaVigne. Ms. LaVigne spent her whole life in Tupper Lake. She loved the town, the people and beauty of the area. She attended Holy Ghost Academy and Tupper Lake High School, graduating in 1969. She received an A.A.S. in Business Administration from North Country Community College. She attended the University of Plattsburgh earning a B.S. in elementary education. Several years later she went back to school and went on to earn a M.S. in reading from University of Potsdam. Ms. LaVigne had a lifelong love of and commitment to young children which was reflected in the jobs she held. She owned and operated the Jack & Jill Nursery School for 5 years. She then spent 9 years working for A.R.C. preschool, Children's Corner. It was at this time she returned to school for her Masters Degree. Finally, she worked 5 years as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher at Holy Ghost Academy. Due to various health problems, Ms. LaVigne resigned her position in 1998. During the periods between jobs and school, Ms. LaVigne spent her time substitute teaching, even traveling to Long Lake Central School. Unable to completely give up working with little ones, after resigning, Ms. LaVigne volunteered her time in L.P. Quinn kindergartens. She would lend a hand during center time (extra hands are always needed then) or work on any skills or projects the teachers felt the children needed help with. Ms. LaVigne also taught first grade CCD classes for several years in St. Alphonsus church. Mr. LaVigne loved her family above all. She had a passion for being outdoors, camping and picnicking. She loved to cook, read, knit and crochet. Ms. LaVigne is survived by her parents, three sisters; Jackie Denis and her husband Larry, Mary LaLonde and her husband Stuart, both of Tupper Lake, Lisa Bryda and her husband Dean of Castleton, NY, two brothers; Howard and his wife Joanne of Pennellville, NY and Dean and his wife Marcy of Tupper Lake. Also surviving are 9 nephews, 2 nieces, 1 great nephew and 1 great niece. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 7 from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus church followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Ms. LaVigne's memory to St. Alphonsus Church, Tupper Lake Fire Dept, Rescue Squad or High Peaks Hospice. Arrangements are with the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home
