Robert Laplante

Robert C. LaPlante, age 82, of 36 Olive Street, Saranac Lake, died Friday, June 17, 2011 at his home.

Born in Plattsburgh, New York on July 22, 1928, he was the son of Harry and L. Alice (Knight) LaPlante. He married Eileen G. Madden on September 13, 1954 in Saranac Lake.

Mr. LaPlante had been a resident of Saranac Lake for 80 years and graduated from the Saranac Lake "Red Skins" High School in 1949. He had been employed by A & P as a Meat Cutter/Butcher at various A & P locations including Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Tupper Lake, Plattsburgh and AuSable Forks. He enjoyed wood working and was an avid outdoorsman hunting, fishing, boating camping and snowmobiling. He especially loved to spend time with family and friends and was always willing to help others.

He is survived by his wife Eileen LaPlante of Saranac Lake, NY, one son Lee LaPlante and his wife Leslie of Ray Brook, NY, two daughters Lynn LaPlante Frost of Baltimore, MD, and Judy LaPlante Sheldrake and her husband Tom of Kansas City, MO, six grandchildren Matthew LaPlante of Saranac Lake, NY, Tim Frost of Columbia, MD, Jayme Frost of Reisterstown, MD, Krista Frost of Reisterstown, MD, Dylan Sheldrake of Kansas City, MO, and Paige Sheldrake of Kansas City, MO. He is also survived by many close friends including Renee Clark of Saranac Lake and Michele Forero of Baltimore. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at St. Paul’s Church in Bloomingdale, with Rev. Paul Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
