Leon Lamoy

December 23, 1949 — December 23, 2017

Leon Lamoy, 68, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017. Complications created by a heart attack he suffered years earlier eventually took his life.

Leon was born August 13, 1949. He was the son of Eleanor and Victor Lamoy.

He graduated from Ausable Forks Central School and went on to earn a degree in Civil and Construction Technologies from Hudson Valley Community College.

Leon was hardworking and enjoyed all aspects of construction. He constructed over 21 homes, completed numerous home additions and remodeling jobs while self-employed. He was proficient in architectural drawing skills. Drafting kept him very busy as he completed approximately 200 house plans through the years. Later in his career, he was employed with Tissot Construction. The Adirondack style homes and boathouses were jobs he never grew tired of. He was a true craftsman.

While at home, he was always drawing house plans or building a new project. You would hear the sounds of a skill saw, an air compressor, the hammering and smell fresh cut lumber. Ifhe wasn't involved with building he was working in his woodshed. He never really sat still until the end of the day.

Leon was a kind man. He was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed help. Over the years he developed a true love for animals, especially the family Airedale companions. In the winter, he would shovel snow mazes in their yard for them to run through. If snow accumulation permitted, he would make large mounds just to provide them with a new view of the neighborhood. When it was time to call it a day his two furry pals were quick to join him on the couch.

He made Saranac Lake his home for almost 30 years. There, he and his wife Shelley spent more than twenty happy years together. He was a wonderful husband. The years together went by way too quickly and he is greatly missed.

There will be no calling hours and a private service will be held in the spring. Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Thank you to the Saranac Lake Village Police Department for saving Leon's life back on October 14, 2001. Your quick response on that day gave us more precious years together. You were there when we needed you again this past August. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
