Shirley Lahart

November 22, 1932 — December 11, 2016

Shirley Elizabeth LaHart, age 84, formerly of Saranac Lake and currently of 29 Trillium Drive, Lake Placid, died Sunday, December 11, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home in AuSable Forks.

Born in Harkness, New York on November 22, 1932, she was the daughter of Mitchell and Eva (Baker) Terry, Sr.

Shirley, married Peter LaHart, Sr. on April 12, 1958 at Holy Name Church, AuSable Forks.

A lifelong resident of the North Country, Shirley had worked at various area businesses over the years including as a seasmstress for both the Tupper Lake Dress Factory and Saranac Lake Dress Factory; a switchboard operator at the Lake Placid Club; caretaker for the Wawbeek on Upper Saranac Lake; and in housekeeping for the Holiday Inn in Lake Placid until she retired in 2006. She especially loved raising her eight children and was an awesome taxi cab driver for her girls. She also attended and graduated from North Country Community College. While attending college there she had the unique experience of sharing some of the same classes with her daughters who were attending NCCC at the same time. Shirley loved to sing and was involved in the NCCC Choir. She also loved to crochet.

She is survived by her husband Peter LaHart, Sr., one son Peter (Darlene) LaHart, Jr. of Keeseville; 7 daughters: Lindasue (Randy) Greene of Lake Placid; Sharon LaHart of AuSable Forks, Pam (Mark) Pozzi of Goodview, VA, Patricia (Carl, III) Williams of Saranac Lake, Lucy (Kevin, Sr.) Goff of AuSable Forks, Rebecca (David) McKillip of Lake Placid and Venessa (Michael) Buckley of Gabriels. She is also survived by one sister Barbara Carnes of AuSable Forks, one step brother Skip Mitchell Terry of Jay, NY, one step sister Evelyn Coolidge of Jay, NY, twenty-one grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, two daughters Margaret and Shirley, four sisters and six brothers.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday December 15, 2016, at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
