Irene Ladd’s 97 years of life began with her birth in 1925. She grew up in Saranac Lake, loved the Adirondacks and remained in the area throughout her life.
She cherished her marriage to Bill Goetz and doted on her children Obie, Marilee and Bonnie Dupree. Bob Goetz’s special brand of teasing always made her smile. Many new and lasting friendships developed during Irene’s time on the office staff at Petrova School. She was game to have fun at the drop of a hat or lend a hand when necessary. She greeted animals with a pat and strangers with a smile.
Among her favorite activities were skiing, golfing, reading, cooking clam linguine for Bill and enjoying crme brulee at the Left Bank Cafe. Irene was a Wheel of Fortune fan and a crossword puzzle solving whiz. She was an excellent knitter and seamstress and became an expert porcelain doll maker. She and Bill took road trips to visit with her paisanos in Rochester. They also traveled to Alaska, Hawaii and Europe to visit family and friends.
Irene ended each day writing in her journal. Jesus heard her prayers which always included a request for help for the world itself and all those in need. Oftentimes it seemed those prayers were answered.
On Aug. 23, we celebrated Irene’s 97th birthday and she blew out her candles on the first try.
On Monday, Aug. 29, 2022 she left us to go celebrate the beginning of her new life in heaven. Her good heart and cheerful outlook will be welcomed up there and truly missed down here.
A private graveside service will be held at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
Those wishing to remember Irene can make a donation in her name to the Saranac Lake Free Library.
