Steve Kriwox

Tupper Lake, NY. Steve Kriwox, 89, passed away on Thursday September 15, with family at his side. He died in his handmade log home on Underwood Road.

Steve was born March 11, 1922 in Boston to Marie (Mayik) and John Kriwox. He was a lumberjack, avid trapper, hunter and fisherman. He worked the last Hudson River log drive in 1953, carrying lunches for the drivers. Over the years he experienced many adventures in the woods and enjoyed sharing them. He and his wife built and operated Usher Farm Greenhouses in Tupper Lake. He was a member of the Tupper Lake Baptist Chapel.

He was a World War II veteran serving from 1943 to l948.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Lidia (Greig) Kriwox of Tupper Lake: 9 children, Glenda Sue (Harry) Coates of Rochester, NY., Diane Kriwox of Edinburg, PA., Jean (Alberto) Morales of Lake City, FL., David ( Kristen) Kriwox of Elba, NY., Colin (Sarah) Kriwox of Burlington, VT., Rachel Kriwox of Tupper Lake, NY., Jesse Kriwox of Dickson, TN., Cornelius Kriwox of Savannah, GA., and Emily Kriwox of Dickson, TN.; 5 brothers, John (Ruth) Kriwox of Oregon, Charles Carbino of Massena, NY., Peter (Janet) Kriwox of Greig, NY., Sam (Linda) Kriwox of Lowville, NY., and Garry (Kathy) Kriwox of Cape Vincent, NY.; 4 sisters, Sylvia (Ralph) Chennell of Glenfield, NY., Louise Hulbert of Brantingham, NY., Eva Vanzandt of Glenfield, NY., Amanda (Donald) Blade of Glenfield, NY. Also surviving him are 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, his step-mother Eva Kriwox, brothers Eric Kriwox, Paul Kriwox, Albert Dumas, Donald Kriwox, and Joseph Kriwox, and sisters Myrtle Kriwox, Theresa Sweeney, Nellie Grabb, Pauline Salmon, and Ruth Cobb.

Calling hours will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday , September 22nd at the Stuart Fortune Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 23rd at the Baptist Chapel in Tupper Lake. A burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Tupper Lake.
