Blanche M. Kreymborg, age 95, of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake, died Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Adirondack Medical Center.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on March 28, 1916, she was the daughter of James and Jeannette (Cox) Brown. She married Howard Kreymborg on July 15, 1945. He predeceased her on July 11, 1949.
Mrs Kreyrnborg grew up in Bloomingdale, N. Y. and graduated from Bloomingdale High School in 1932. She moved to New York City in 1934 where she received her nurses training from St. Luke's Hospital. She received a B.S. degree in public health nursing from Columbia University.
Mrs Kreymborg was employed as a public health nurse in N.Y. until 1943 when she moved to Massena, N.Y., where she was employed as village nurse
and later as a St. Lawrence County Nurse until 1947, when she retired from nursing and moved to Schenectady. She was a resident of Long Island from 1950 to 1967 when she moved back to the area. Blanche returned to public health service employed by the Franklin Co. Nursing Service retiring in 1978.
She was a charter member of High Peaks Hospice; a member and volunteer
at the Saranac Lake Adult Center. She had been involved in volunteer work in Bloomingdale and was instrumental in establishing an information and referral service at the Town Hall. She was also involved in nutrition service distributing surplus food. Mrs. Kreymborg was a member of the Paint and Palette and enjoyed painting as a hobby. She was an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Saranac Lake where she served as a member of the Ladies Guild, Altar Guild, the Outreach Committee and in the Education for Ministry program. She also volunteered at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center as a member of the Recovery Inc.
She is survived by one daughter Mrs. Richard (Claire) Beth of Tacoma Park, MD, one son James H. Kreymborg of Chicago, Ill., one brother Richard J. Brown of Duane, Grandchildren Hettie Jeannette Beth, Erika Ann Beth, Sean Kristopher Kreymborg and Scott Thomas Kreymborg and a great grandson, James Eugene Webb.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday August 1st from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday August 3rd at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, with Rev. Ann Gaillard officiating. Interment will take place in Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, NY on Thursday August 11, 2011.
