Francis (Frank) S. Kohanski, died peacefully with his family by his side, August 7, 2012. Born in Norwich CT, August 14, 1929, alumni of Norwich Free Academy and UConn, he served three years in the air force. He and his wife owned a large farm in CT where he raised Angus cattle, beehives and rabbits. He had a 28-year career at General Dynamics in Groton, CT as an electrical engineer, where he was an integral part of the Nautilus submarine instrumentation panel design. The family lived in Middlebury VT for 10 years. After retiring, he and his wife spent 13 years traveling the country in their RV, visiting friends in every state and up to Alaska twice, with their home base in CT. He enjoyed 18 wonderful years in Hendersonville, NC. He belonged to the American Chestnut Foundation, and more recently the Apple Country Woodcrafters in NC, and the International Wood Collectors Society. He had a passion for woodworking. He enjoyed turning, building and collecting a variety of wood species. He is survived by his wife Juanita of 50 years, daughter Cynthia and son-in-law Mike Denis of Brandon VT, daughter Thalia and son-in-law Ken Wilkinson of Girdwood, AK and daughter Amy, grandson Liam and son-in-law Roy Hurd of Saranac Lake, NY. He was predeceased by infant son Patrick and daughter Elizabeth. Memorial service will be held in Saranac Lake, NY Sunday August 12 at The First Presbyterian Church at 3pm.
