Robert Norman Knobel, age 67, of Bloomingdale, NY died Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on July 31, 1951, he was the son of Raymond and Phyllis (Norman) Knobel. Robert married Susan Ferree on January 28, 1978 at the Bloomingdale Methodist Church.
Robert and his wife Susan moved back to the Saranac Lake area in 2012 coming from Nashville, TN where they lived for over 32 years. Robert worked at the Opryland Hotel where he co-authored the "Commissary Production Kitchen Manual" and trained culinary apprentices. He had been employed as a Sous Chef at the Adirondack Loj and Whiteface Club & Resort for several years. He was a member of the Saranac Lake Masonic Lodge and had often cooked for their pancake breakfasts and lasagna suppers. He also had worked on the construction of the bob run in Lake placid and worked as the announcer on the infamous “Shady” curve. He enjoyed skiing, biking, martial arts (brown belt) and flying. He flew "Fire Watch" with Art Devlin Jr. and his wife Susan over Lake Placid through the Cascades and the surrounding areas.
He is survived by his wife Susan of Bloomingdale, Mother-in-Law Anna H Ferree (Saranac Lake), three brothers Richard Knobel and his wife Elaine of Bloomingdale, Rusty Knobel and his wife Wanda of Saranac Lake, and Randall Knobel and his wife Lori of Lockport, NY and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday July 2, 2019 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday July 3, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church of Saranac Lake, with Pastor Joanne White officiating. Burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery in Bloomingdale.
