TUPPER LAKE- Genevieve M. (Salamy) Kmack, 83, of Tupper Lake passed away at her home on Park St., Monday, December 27, 2010. Born on February 3, 1927 in West Carthage, she was the daughter of Henry and Mary Salamy. She was a graduate of Holy Ghost Academy in 1944. On February 10, 1948 she married John Kmack at St. Alphonsus Church and made their home at 160 Park St. Genevieve was employed at Mercy General Hospital for 31 years, working as a Nursing Assistant in pediatrics and later in medical records. In 1977, Mrs. Kmack was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year for her many years of working with the elderly citizens and coordinator of volunteer services at Mercy General Hospital along with her work with the youth of the community in CYO and other youth activities at Holy Ghost Academy and as a volunteer in the Magic Carpet Story hour program and her Aid to Retarded Children Program. She was the mother of six children, two of whom died in infancy; survived by three sons; Michael and his wife Lynne of Tupper Lake, Steven of Potsdam, Christopher of North Kingston, RI, one daughter Mary Kay Smith and her husband Patrick of Wickford, RI, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister Yvonne (Salamy) Huml of Long Island. She was pre-deceased by her husband, seven brothers and one sister. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 29th from 3 to 6 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in May.
