James J. Kiernan, Jr., age 78, of Long Island City, NY and Saranac Lake, NY died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Adirondack Medical Center.
Born in New York City, New York on August 09, 1931, he was the son of James and Grace (Nolan) Kiernan, Sr. He married Joanne DeVecchio on May 31, 1958 in St. Bernard's Church. She predeceased him on September 9, 1993.
James had been a summer resident of Saranac Lake for over 50 years. He attended and graduated from the Chaminade High School, the University of Dayton and Adelphi College. James was a retired stage hand working on both Broadway and TV and was a proud member of the Theatrical Stage Employees Local #1 IATSE for over 50 years. James was an avid reader and sports fan. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1953 to 1954 during the Korean War.
He is survived by one son James Kiernan and his wife Colleen of Erie, PA, and one brother Richard Kiernan and his wife Jane of Ridgewood, NJ, two nephews Chris and Peter Kiernan and one niece Kathy Riley. He is also survived by several cousins including Jerry, Ellen and Joe Cavallo. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. A bible vigil service will take place at on Wednesday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Thursday May 27, 2010 at St. Bernard’s Church, with Rev. Thomas Kormeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
