Mrs. Ruth Dora Bean Kern, age 91, of Saranac Lake, died Saturday, May 27, 2017.
She is survived by her two daughters; Jean Kern of Saranac Lake, and Mrs. Jane Nohle of Lisle, NY, two granddaughters, Martille Norton of Maine, NY and Kensey Nohle of Lisle, NY and one great grandson Trent Norton of Maine, NY.
Mrs. Kern was born on July 13, 1925, in Littleton, New Hampshire, the daughter of Charles and Bertha (MacArthur) Bean. An older brother Henry died in 1934.
Mrs. Kern graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1943. She attended Plattsburgh College. She was employed for several years at the Saranac Lake Telephone office as the evening supervisor.
She married Carl Kern of Saranac Lake in 1949. Mr. Kern died in 2009.
Mrs. Kern was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake. She taught first grade Sunday school for many years and was Sunday School Superintendent for 17 years. She wrote and directed the Christmas and children’s Day programs during that time. She worked with the junior choir and was always willing to serve wherever needed.
She was co-founder of Girl Scout Troop 154.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid.
