TUPPER LAKE- Elizabeth "Betty" M. (Skiff) Keib, 88, formerly of Castorland, passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Adirondack Mercy Center in Tupper Lake where she had resided for the past seven months. Born November 5, 1921 in North Hampton, NY, she was the daughter of Jay and Harriet (Brown) Skiff. Betty received a college degree in Albany majoring in business. She moved to Carthage where she was employed as bookkeeper by her Uncle Elmer Brown at the Altamont Milk Company. She met Robert "Babe" Keib of Kirshnerville. Betty was one of the first residents at Brookside Senior Living Community in Lowville. Here she was able to be near "home" and enjoy her many close friends . She resided there until moving to Tupper Lake in 2008 to be closer to family. Betty and Babe, while never having children of their own devoted much of their time to nieces and nephews as well as supporting several children in Third world countries. Together they enjoyed many years of camping throughout New York State and Canada. She was known to be an avid reader, enjoyed bird watching, playing board games and working on puzzles. Betty was a great conversationalist and always took the time to visit with family or friends. She will be sadly missed by those who were so fortunate to know her. Betty is survived by one sister in law, Peg Skiff of Tupper Lake and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, two brothers, Jay Skiff and Donald Skiff.
