Gerald A. Kavanagh, 82, of 43 Lindsay Ave, Tupper Lake, passed away with his loving wife by his side Friday, November 5, 2010. Born on August 29, 1928 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Vincent and Katherine (Edwards) Kavanagh. Gerald attended local schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict from 1951 - 1953. Upon his return from the service, he and his dad became incorporated as Kavanagh Trucking Company. In 1970 he became President of the company. On September 15, 1984, he married Leona Godin Burnham. Gerald was very active in the Tupper Lake community, he is a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. A life member of the VFW Post 3120, serving as Past Commander from 1972-73 and as Quartermaster from 1982- 89. He is also a member of the Moose Club No.640 and Tupper Lake Lions Club. He also served as a village of Tupper Lake trustee from 1976 -80. He is survived by his wife, Leona, four sons; Vincent and his wife Ellen, Phil and his wife Tina, Michael, J.P. and his wife Jeanne. Two daughters; Mary Kay Amell and her husband Roger, Jackie McTernan and her husband Jack, six step-children; Charles Burnham, Frank Burnham and his wife MaryJane, Susan Torno and her husband Sebold, Kim Burnham, Debbie Lizotte, Amy Barton and her husband Danny, one sister Shirley Savage and her husband Jerry, 37 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his parents, two wives, Norma Walsh Kavanagh and Mary Noyes Kavanagh, one daughter Vickie and a sister Patricia Moody. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 7 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
