Joseph E. Boyle

 Joseph E. Boyle (“Joey”), age 32 of Saranac Lake, NY set off on his quest for bigger fish and eternal sunsets on January 15, 2025.

 Joey leaves behind a considerable, but select, collection of family and friends that will continue to laugh at his antics, shed tears in his absence, and search for the silver linings of life’s cruel blows.

 A lifelong resident of Saranac Lake, with the occasional wanderings to warmer places with a view of the ocean. Joey could often be found gracing his sister, Jackie, with his presence, being that one uncle to Mia and Oscar who tells you how it is, embarrasses you whenever the opportunity presents itself, picks you up, dusts you off, and tells you to get back out there. Despite his tough love approach, his youthful spirit had all the children flocking to him.

 The conservation program in high school sparked his respect for the outdoors and all things hand crafted. Joey had a thirst for knowledge (quickly the smartest person in the room, just ask him), he took every opportunity to work with, and learn from, the most skilled craftsman in every trade. Knowing he could only ever be his own boss, he filled his personal tool belt with all things construction, electrical work, plumbing and roofing. With the help and encouragement from his then partner, Christa, he went on to create his own business “American Unlimited” and was awarded “Best of the Mountains” 2nd place as both builder/ contractor and painter in 2021 after just 1 year of having a business. In 2022, he proudly received his 3rd Degree of Masonry under the guidance of his step-father, Tony, and continued to be Free-Mason in good standing at Whiteface Mtn. Lodge #789.

 He was tough, loyal, prideful, hardworking, a renegade, and a flirt. He stuck up for those who couldn’t stick up for themselves and didn’t shy away from a challenge (even when the challenge was lifting the car off a neighbor) His still waters ran deep. He was and will be forever young.

 He enjoyed fishing, hiking, skateboarding, surfing, ju jitsu, and music festivals. A lover, a fighter, and a dreamer. Joey would take satisfaction in the “thirst trap” photo above and the trail of broken hearts he left behind in his wake. Hey, if Joey believed it, it was true.

 Joey was fierce and full throttle in all things. Joey, once told us, he could never go back to his bad habit because he couldn’t do things half way - it would kill him. This week the addiction he fought so hard to beat finally caught up with him.

 Joey was deeply protective of his loved ones, especially his little sister, Gina, who he lovingly called “Bean”. He always looked forward to dinners with his grandmother, Bess Boyle, especially when meatballs were on the table. Construction was in his blood, at a young age Joey would follow his father, Joe Boyle, around the job site with a tape measure or hammer in hand.

 So many lives will never be the same but we take comfort knowing he’s somewhere gazing out at pink skies and waiting for the fish to bite.  

 Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.  Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, January 22nd, from 5pm.6:30 pm. A funeral service will immedately follow at 6:30 pm at the funeral home.

 Those wishing to share their condolences and memories are encouraged to deliver them with a big bear hug to Joey’s mom, Renee.  Contributions in Joey’s memory can be made to Whiteface Mtn. Lodge #789, 173 Olive St., Saranac Lake, NY, for the benefit of the local skate park.
