Carl Johnson

Carl E. Johnson, age 66, of 46 William Street, Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at his home.

Born in Suffern, New York on December 04, 1942, he was the son of Kenneth and Wilhelmina (Gage) Johnson. Carl married Phyllis Tucker on June 29, 1991 in Saranac Lake.

Carl's father was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge and was raised by his mother and step father Gordon Johnson. Carl had worked as a machinist making Medical Implants in Pearl River, NY for many years. He later moved to Saranac Lake and had been employed for Gendron Lumber for 17 years, Aubuchon Hardware for 2 years and Gregory Lumber for 2 years until his retirement in 2003. Carl is a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1961 to 1965. Carl enjoyed working on pocket watches, woodworking and carpentry. He also really enjoyed having the opportunity to express his ideas and opinions as a frequent caller and voice on WNBZ "Talk of the Town" program.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis Johnson of Saranac Lake, NY, three step children Shelia O'Reilly of Saranac Lake, NY, William O'Reilly of Saranac Lake, NY and Michael O'Reilly of Saranac Lake, NY. He is also survived by three sisters Hazel Coloris of Whiting, NJ, Karen Vanhorn of Norwich, NY, and Linda Ingram of Salemberg, NC. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and step father.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Saturday, November 28, 2009 from 2PM -4PM and 6PM - 7:45PM. A funeral service will immediately follow calling hours at 7:45 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Following cremation interment will take place in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
