Barbara Johnson

Barbara A. Johnson, age 79, of 35 Willow Way, Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Schenectady, NY on October 24, 1935, she was the daughter of Charles and Dorothy B. (Lincoln) Jones. Barbara, married Francis E. Johnson on November 7, 1957 at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale. Francis predeceased her on August 14, 2014.

A life-long resident of the area, she was involved in many civic activities and held memberships in the Saranac Lake Women’s Civic Chamber, Rotary Anns and the Ladies of the Elks to name a few. A stay-home mother in her early years, she eventually was employed in a few area retail stores including the Montgomery Ward Catalog Sales Outlet, which she co-owned with her husband Francis. She was employed as a bus driver by the Saranac Lake Central School District before retiring in the year 2000.

She is survived by four children Pamela Johnson of Saranac Lake, Polly Doty and husband Derek of Ray Brook, William Johnson of Lyndonville, VT, and Christopher Johnson of Old Forge, NY, four grandchildren Briana and Alexandria Patnode, Orrin and Chase Atwood, two great grandsons, Liam Patnode Smith and Gannon Pelkey, three brothers Raymond Jones of Casper, WY, Thomas Jones of Bloomingdale, and John Jones and his wife Elizabeth of Villages, FL, one sister Norma Klosek of Utica and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death one brother George Jones. And one sister Beverley Batsford.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday July 24, 2015 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. An Elks service will take place at 6:30 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday July 25, 2015 at St. Bernard's Church. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Vermontville.
