Virginia “Gina” Jennings, age 80, of Vermontville, NY, died Saturday, September 05, 2015 at the Orchard Nursing Home in Granville, NY.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on September 06, 1934, she was the daughter of Francis and Naomi (Shumway) Hastings.
Virginia lived as a small girl in Saranac Lake then moved to San Diego, CA, during World War II from age three to age ten. She returned to Vermontville where she lived for much of her life. She raised her children in Vermontville while married to Paul St. Marie for 22 years. She retired from Saranac Lake Central Schools, working for many years at Bloomingdale School. In June of 1984, she married Robert Jennings of Mechanicville, NY, and remained married to him until his death in 2008. She continued to live in Mechanicville until she became ill with ALS.
Virginia loved taking care of people. She was an avid gardener, once featured in TroyBilt’s magazine for her gardening skills. Her love of horses prompted her to purchase a Tennessee Walker while on a cross country vacation with her husband. Bob. She also enjoyed music, painting, sewing and knitting. Virginia was very creative and never afraid to take on a new project.
She is survived three children, her son Nelson St. Marie of Granville, NY, her daughter Betsy St. Marie Holl and her husband Robert of Longwood, FL and her son Ted St. Marie and his wife Joanne of Stillwater, NY, five grandchildren Joshua St. Marie and his wife Kat, Courtney Saunders and her husband James, Megan and Holly Holl, Shawn Schukes and his wife Cassie, and Nick St. Marie, six great grandchildren Kristi, Alex, Jaymie, Rylee, Skyler and Emily, one sister Gretchen Messier of Vermontville and two brothers Jerry Hastings of Sand Point , ID and Tom Romeyn of Gabriels and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday September 11, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday September 12, 2015 the Fortune - Keough Funeral Home, with Rev. Daniel Shumway officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Vermontville.
