Thomas Jaquis

Thomas Edward Jaquis passed away at his home on August 25, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer. His family and friends were with him during his final days.

He was born in Saranac Lake, N.Y. on November 20, 1945 to Charles F. Jaquis and Irene Perry Jaquis.

He is survived by his loving wife Ellen Duquette Jaquis of Portland, IN., his son Thomas Edward Jaquis II (Krista) of Seminole, Fl. his daughters Tammy Jaquis Grosskopf (Kevin) of Malcolm, NE, Jill Massey of Goldsborough, N.C., his stepsons Mark Taylor (Allison) of Windsor, Ct., Kevin Taylor (Sara) of Dover Plains, NY., Daniel Taylor (Jessica) of Millerton, NY. his sisters Marge Gowett (Bob) of

Vermontville, NY, Marie Spencer (Jim) of Dover Plains, NY, and a brother Jim Miner (Patsy) of St. Petersburg, Fl., 13 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased in death by his parents Charles and Irene Jaquis,, his three brothers John (Jackie) Jaquis, Robert Mc Clure, Charles Jaquis, his sister Arlene Smith, and grandson Jonah Taylor.

He was past president of the Northgate Lions Club of St. Petersburg, Fl, a member of the St. Petersburg Fire Department, and a member of the V.F.W. Post 10192 of St. Petersburg, Fl.. He was also a member of the USS Walker DD/DDE-517 Reunion Association.

He lived in St. Petersburg, Fl. from 1968 to 2006 when they moved to Portland, IN.

He worked for G.T.E. as a lineman for 18 years and then started his own trucking company Jaquis Enterprise specializing in moving antique furniture everywhere in the country for 19 years.

He loved spending time with his family. He loved all animals especially Dalmatians. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife Ellen and their dogs, Holly and Molly all over the country in their RV. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, restoring antique cars and fire trucks, antique farm equipment, wood working and making furniture.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a Corpsman and was very proud of his 36 years of sobriety.

Calling hours will be at the at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, NY on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 4 PM to 8PM. The Burial Mass will be on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at the Church of Assumption in Gabriels, NY at 10 AM with the military honors burial following at the Mountain View Cemetery, Gabriels, NY.

Society, State of Heart Care, Portland, IN. 47371 or your local Lions Club, as they provided him with eye surgery as a child, which he never forgot.
