Peggy F. Hunt, age 89, of 175 McKenzie Pond Road, Ray Brook, died Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born in Montreal, Canada on May 05, 1920, she was the daughter of Jack and Jane Foster.
Mrs. Hunt had been a resident of Saranac Lake since she was 2 years old coming from Montreal, Canada. She attended and graduated from Saranac Lake High School class of 1939. She later attended and graduated from the Watertown Business School. She met her future husband Bud Hunt at the age of 15 and married her high school sweet heart on November 6, 1942 at the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake. They were together for over 74 years. In 1960 they started the I.B. Hunt Agency which they owned and operated together for 33 years until their retirement in 1994. Mrs. Hunt was one of the original founders of the Paint and Palette Organization in Saranac Lake, had served as a Cub Scout Leader, and was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and member of the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake. She was an avid artist and had taken many art courses over the years from various know area artists. She later taught art lessons for various organizations and individuals including at the Saranac Lake Adult Center and in Florida. Mrs. Hunt was also very active in theater especially in her younger years and was the lead actress in many plays. She also wrote her own play. She especially loved Kiwassa Camp and wintering in Florida. She loved to travel with her husband Bud, and saw much of the world.
She is survived by her husband Bud Hunt of Ray Brook; two sons Stephen Hunt of Mesa, AZ and Kenneth Hunt of Ray Brook, NY; five grandchildren Jennifer MacDonald of New York City, NY, Curtis Hunt of St. Paul, MN, Holly Hunt of Ray Brook, NY, Evie Hunt of Hawaii, and Nori Hunt of Saranac Lake, NY. She is also survived by two great grandchildren Anne and George MacDonald of New York City, NY.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday, December 17, 2009 from 2PM -4PM and 6PM - 8PM. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday December 18, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Maggie McCarey officiating. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid.
