Irving "Bud" Hunt

March 8, 1920 — February 21, 2015

Irving "Bud" Hunt passed peacefully February 21st at the age of 94 to be reunited in heaven with his loving wife of 67 years, Peggy, who predeceased him in 2009. Bud was born March 8th 1920 in Saranac Lake. He lived his entire life, except a few post college years on the same property in Ray Brook.

His patient loving devotion to Peg, his family and every aspect of his life resulted in excellence in all his endeavors. As a youth he competed on a world level in speed skating. His abilities in baseball and football funded his education obtaining a degree in civil engineering from Clarkson in Potsdam. He was very proud of his work for American Bridge Company. Bud was instrumental in the development design and construction of the Ray Brook water district. He left his engineering career to come home to take over the family pig farm, which he ran alone. A twist of fate opened the door to his next opportunity, the founding of the 1. B. Hunt Insurance and Real Estate Agency in 1960. The resulting success allowed he and Peg to travel the world, educate their sons, enjoy their summer cottage on Lake Kiwassa and retire in 1994 to winters in Florida.

He served his community on boards of the Saranac Lake Methodist Church, Saranac Lake General Hospital, Saranac lake Voluntary Heath Assn., Carpenter Foundation, Bank of Lake Placid, Masons and Lions Club.

He leaves behind two sons, Stephen of Mesa Arizona and Kenneth of Saranac Lake, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune Keough Funeral home. There will be no calling hours. There will be a memorial service and celebration of his life in July. Donations can be made to the Carpenter Foundation in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their memories and sign the online guestbook at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
