Gladys L. Hough, 94, passed away January 31, 2013 at Adirondack Medical Center-Uihlein in Lake Placid, where she had been a resident since December, 2008.
She was born September 18, 1918, the daughter of William and Nora (O'Neil) Hough and spent her youth in Franklin Falls. Upon graduation from Plattsburgh Business Institute in 1938, her first job was as secretary for S. Curtis Hayes Insurance in Bloomingdale. This turned out to be the only job Gladys would ever have. Upon the death of Mr. Hayes in 1963, Gladys managed the business until it was purchased by Philip S. Feinberg and remained with the company until her retirement in 1980. Gladys liked to play golf and was a member of the Saranac Lake Golf Club. She also was an avid bowler and had played on the S. Curtis Hayes Team for many years.
She is survived by two nieces: Karen and Elizabeth Kenny, two nephews: Kenneth and Paul Kenny, all of the Syracuse area and a dear friend Sanford Hayes of Bloomingdale.
She was predeceased by her parents, a brother Joseph Hough and a sister Beulah Kenny.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday February 4, 2013 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. Bill Muench officiating. Burial will take place in May at St. Paul's Cemetery in the Town of Franklin.
